The protocol was signed by Dr. Sarkis Fdous, president of the Arab Union of Survey and M. Mohamed AYARI, president of the Euro-Arab Union of Geomatics.  

Members of the Arab Union of Survey and members of the syndicate of Lebanese topographers, general director of survey inLebanon, and Eng. Aline Alyo, in addition to a number of journalists, were present at the ceremony of the protocol signature. 

The presidents of both union stated that all the parties interested in geomatics are willing to develop this vital sector, which is crucial for development and said that experts in the Arab World are working building scientific and technical system, which will contribute in the development of our countries. 

By the end of the ceremony, M. Mohamed AYARI was awarded a shield for his role in developing scientific cooperation between Arab institutions.

The 7^th edition of the international congress Geotunis which was opened on April 8 closed its activities on Friday, April 12 2013. The congress gathered the academic, training and investment aspects thanks to the remarkable international participation.

A number of themes, related to geomatics technologies, were discussed in 45 scientific sessions, chaired by experts and international scientists. Scientific sessions proved the importance of GIS and remote sensing in sustainable development. The congress included a number of workshops in addition to an international exhibition about geomatics technologies.

The congress scientific council came out with the following recommendations:

First: Activation of GeoSP magazine, at the international level.

Second: Creation of an international forum to exchange expertise and competencies in GIS, Geospace as a subsidiary of geotunis.

Third: Support for the efforts of the Tunisian Association of Digital Geographic Information

Fourth: Support for the 8^th edition of Geotunis and empathizing the training aspect.

Fifth: Encouraging participants to use geospace and GIS technologies, taking advantage from the quick technological evolution, and working on following it through the development of training, exchange of expertise, and taking advantage from the international scientific experience.

 Companies, researchers and academics were honored during the closing ceremony; also, the association and geotunis committee were granted a number of shields, medals from participants as a form of gratitude for the good organization and the scientific content of the congress.

Regarding the importance of geographic information in the improving the security performance, the Tunisian security institution participated in the 7^th edition of Geotunis, which was held in Hammamet 8- 12 April 2013.

A study day, organized by the Tunisian Association for digital Geographic Information, the National Syndicate for Internal security Forces and the Higher School for Training Stuff, was allocated for the security stuff.

A number of subjects about the use of GIS in security, civil protection and roads, were treated by security stuff:

-          Use of Geomatics in reducing and detecting crimes: Mr. Eskander Deghrir

-          Reality and perspective of GIS use in promoting the security performance  Mr. Akrem Alarbi

-          Role of digital technology in security system reforms. Capt. Sadok Berjab

-          of GIS in improving the civil security performances Col. Salah Korbi

-          Use of maps in transport and mobility and in the prevention of road accident, Mr. Mohamed Souiguer

The discussion, which was chaired by Mr. Ryadh Baccar, revealed the interest of security agents in GIS and their aim to improve their skills.

Security stuff participated also in other session and workshops.

 The international Trimble company, specialized in the production of positioning via satellite devises, surveying techniques and mapping, participated in the 7^th edition of geotunis, where it presented its latest techniques in survey, and positioning technology. Trimble also organized a workshop about the use of global positioning, mapping solutions, survey technologies and GIS.

Participants were interested in technological development of Trimble especially the use small jets in surveying, monitoring system precision, mapping techniques and positioning.
