Abstract
The region of mid Euphrates is one of most important Agricultural regions in Iraq because of the richness in water and healthy soil also farmers , But unfortunately at last years the situation changed and Iraq began to lose these areas by desertification and salinity by effects of the moving sand dunes toward the region and the high level of salty ground water, We studied that disaster for period up to 30 years ago by using satellite records of Landsat since 1972 – 1984 – 1990 – 2002 then by matching these records together to identifies each negative phenomena as a separated layers in GIS software with calculating the areas in each year , Results showed the areas of Desertification and sand dunes increased by 34% because of the wind direction and two sand with dust recourses areas , about the salinity showed a rate of increasing up to 16% specially near the river and places of shallow depth groundwater with effects of great percent of evaporation , that must need a suggested series of actions to stop this danger situations .
